About This Phase
20-minute drama-focused debate lesson emphasizing power, drama, hand gestures, and passionate delivery. Students work in groups of 5, then rotate through pair discussions.
Lesson Stages
This phase includes 6 interactive teaching stages
Assign Topics & Groups
Organize students into 4 debate groups (5 students each), assign topics and FOR/AGAINST teams, display judging criteria (Power, Drama, Gestures, Phrases).
Drama Workshop
Introduce power phrases (STRONGLY believe, COMPLETELY disagree), model dramatic delivery with gestures, run whole-class drill and individual showdown competition.
Team Preparation
Individual writing phase (3 min) for 2 arguments with collocations and gestures, then team huddle (3 min) to rehearse aloud with feedback.
Mini-Debates
4 simultaneous group debates with timed rounds: Openings (1.5min), Arguments (3min), Closings (1.5min). Peer judging on performance criteria.
Rotating Pairs
Speed-dating style pair discussions. FOR side faces AGAINST side. 3 rounds (1.5min each) on different topics. Team B rotates after each round.
Awards & Reflection
Celebrate performances with awards (Best Volume, Best Drama, Best Gestures, Best Collocations). Quick reflection on feelings and improvements.
